The Lower Secondary School Programme
LOWER SECONDARY SCHOOL PHILOSOPHY
Lower Secondary School is a time of transition in a child's life. Therefore, students are exposed to a wide variety of subjects and activities so they will be better prepared for the expectations placed on them at the upper school level. The goal of the lower secondary school team is to encourage students to learn self-discipline, increase their organisational skills, and become responsible socially and to take responsibility for their own learning in an atmosphere of academic excellence.
The lower secondary school years (age 11 - 14) are recognised as an important time when students develop their self image and hone their attitudes towards learning. Relationship building can play a large role in this process. We aim to create learning experiences that will further students' social and moral development while providing academic excellence.
In addition to the core academic classes, the exploratory programme provides students experiences in art, music, drama, physical education, health, study skills, leadership, self awareness, conflict resolution, and computing. There is an in-school after school activity period where students can choose to participate in a wide range of sporting or non-sporting activities. We encourage every student to participate in at least one after-school activity programme each semester.
