Choosing the IGCSE
In May the secondary school turns special attention to
the year 9 students. The school is beginning to plan for the next school
years IGCSE courses. Year 9 students will then be moving into
the first year of the IGCSE programme. The fundamental difference
for Year 9 students as they contemplate next year is that they now have a choice in the design of the curriculum they follow and the subjects
they will study for the IGCSE examinations at the end of Year
11.
Instead of simply following a compulsory timetable laid down by the school,
students have the opportunity to choose from a series of optional subject.
All students must study English Language. Mathematics, a Foreign
Language and Physical Education but they have to choose five other subjects from
a series of optional subjects from a thirteen subject option scheme.
These subjects are arranged to ensure a balanced curriculum for all
students.
As a guideline for a sensible
set of choice, students should consider the following:
The culmination of the IGCSE program are the IGCSE exams
that the students sit for at the end of Year 11. Students that
successfully complete the IGCSE Exams in specific options are eligible to
receive the ICE Diploma. The IGCSE program provides an excellent basis for
entrance into the IB Diploma Program.
